Tottenham looking to raid London rivals for versatile 24-year-old defender

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to reinforce their defence by signing Ben Johnson from rivals West Ham United.

After an impressive start to life at the North London club, Ange Postecoglou is now expected to be backed by the club in the summer transfer window. Tottenham have started to look for ways to further bolster their squad and they have identified Ben Johnson as a potential target.

According to a report from HITC, Spurs are ready to raid rivals West Ham United for the signatures of the 24-year-old defender. Johnson has attracted a lot of interest in the recent past as his future at the club is uncertain.

His contract with the Hammers runs out at the end of the season. While the club are keen on keeping hold of their academy graduate, he has rejected numerous renewal offers so far. As a result, a move away from the club is a real possibility.

The 24-year-old might not be a regular first-team player but his versatility has been of great use to them. His homegrown status, versatility and the fact that he could be available for free have resulted in a lot of interest from clubs in the Premier League.

Ben Johnson would be a useful addition

Tottenham are one of the clubs very keen on signing their rivals’ youth product this summer. Spurs haven’t signed a West Ham player in 13 years but they seem very keen on adding the utility man to their team.

With Sergio Reguilón and Djed Spence expected to part ways with the club, Postecoglou is looking to ensure he has enough depth on the flanks. Johnson will not only add depth to the full-back region, he will also give them another option in the heart of the defence without spending a penny.
