Celtic are on alert as a number of Premier League teams look to activate Jeremie Frimpong’s €35m release clause this summer. The Bayer Leverkusen right-wingback has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months; however, it is expected that teams will look to make the most of a release clause for the Dutch Internationalist.

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool are competing with Arsenal and Manchester United for the 23-year-old.

The news is good for Celtic as they retain a sizeable sell-on fee that would entitle them to around 20% of the fee that he eventually goes for, meaning that the club could net around €7m from the defender that left Paradise in 2021.

Frimpong joined Celtic in September 2019 from Manchester City. The youngster broke through under Neil Lennon as Celtic won a Treble in the 2019/20 season before leaving midway through the COVID season. In his time at the club, Frimpong made 51 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting on eight occasions. Performances caught the eye across Europe and the Bundesliga side swooped to sign Frimpong in a deal worth around £12m.

Now, as Leverkusen edge closer towards a famous Bundesliga title, Frimpong is a key figure under Alonso but as they focus on a Treble, it is inevitable that their players will be the focus of other teams across Europe. Liverpool may look to switch Trent Alexander-Arnold to the midfield with Connor Bradley offering an alternative. Although, Man Utd have been heavily linked for the Manchester-raised youngster.
