Milan CEO Comments on Inquiry, Stars’ Future, and Coach

Milan chief Giorgio Furlani has ambitious goals and plans to challenge Inter next season. He dished to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Our objective was and remains to win. We improved the squad and created a stronger base of starters with worthy rotations. We needed to overhaul the roster last year, while we’ll just have to perfect it this summer. We’ll have the advantage of continuity to aim at winning Serie A and advance in Europe.”

Furlani touched on the investigation about the takeover.

“We have zero fear about it. RedBird Capital has been the Milan owner since August 2022. Elliott granted a vendor loan, one of the many ways to conclude an operation of this magnitude. Everything’s transparent and verifiable. We wish things moved along quickly. It’s inevitably bothersome. There are no ongoing negotiations with new shareholders.”

Furlani spoke about some of their stars.

“Rafael Leao has a €175M release clause and wishes to stay, first and foremost. He’d have to ask us to leave, but he doesn’t want to. Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan are under contract until 2026. Players often dictate their future. They are champions, and we hope to have them with us as long as possible.”

Furlani backed Pioli.

“His spell here has been highly positive. He often gets criticized but has achieved important results. No executive ever put him in the hot seat. It wouldn’t be fair to judge him based on the Europa League or the outcome of the upcoming Derby.”
