Manchester City midfielder Rodri defended their performance after elimination from the Champions League by Real Madrid.

City were beaten on penalties after drawing 1-1 in the second-leg of their quarterfinal last night.

Rodri told City's website: "Nothing much to say. Congratulations to Real Madrid and congratulations to my teammates for the effort. We gave everything.

Nothing to regret. This is football sometimes. This is the trick of this competition. This shows how difficult it is to win it, we did it last season, I'm very frustrated to be honest for what happened.

Sometimes it is difficult to explain. Tomorrow, we will need to digest the loss.

Tomorrow we have to wake up and stand up because we have two more competitions to fight for.

We need to stand up. We need a positive mentality and find an ambition which right now is difficult to find, but tomorrow we will find it."
