Wingback Carlos Augusto will be back in training for Inter Milan tomorrow after recovering from a calf injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Augusto has been on the sidelines for a few weeks due to a calf problem.

The 25-year-old former Monza wingback picked up the injury during a Serie A match against Bologna earlier this month.

Augusto had started that match. However, the Brazilian international had to come off at halftime due to discomfort in his right calf.

The issue proved to be an elongation of the soleus muscle in Augusto’s right calf.

Carlos Augusto To Return To Training For Inter Tomorrow

Augusto missed just two matches for Inter. However, they proved to be important ones.

The 25-year-old was out of the squad for matches against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, and Napoli in Serie A.

It was the round of sixteen second leg against Atletico in particular where Augusto’s absence proved to be a blow for Inter.

That match, away in Madrid, went to extra time.

Inter’s squad was looking a bit threadbare in defense as the match wore on.

Without Augusto to call upon, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi had to employ some emergency solutions as the starters began to tire.

And Augusto would certainly have been one of the first players to come on to provide fresh legs on the left flank in most circumstances had he been fit.

In any event, Augusto has spent the international break recovering from his calf injury.

It has always looked very probable that the Brazilian would be back on the pitch in time for Inter’s first match back from the break, against Empoli in Serie A next Monday.

And Tuttosport report that Augusto will indeed return to training with his teammates tomorrow.

Therefore, Inzaghi can once again call upon a key player in terms of defensive depth during the run-in of the season.

This could be particularly important as the Inter coach faces a prospective injury crisis.

Augusto’s versatility and ability to fill in both at wingback and in the back three could prove to be an important asset as Inter look to finish the job and clinch the Serie A title over the remaining nine matches of the campaign.
