The Winnipeg Jets have unveiled a special edition heritage uniform inspired by the Royal Canadian Air Force, to be worn three times during the 2023–24 regular season.

The uniform, dubbed the “Winnipeg Jets 1948 RCAF jersey” and nicknamed “the Forty-Eight,” commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Air Force and will be worn for the first time against the Carolina Hurricanes on December 4.

The Jets will also wear the uniforms against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 27 and the Los Angeles Kings on April 1, the latter date marking the actual 100th anniversary of the RCAF’s founding.

The jersey features a light blue base with red and navy blue horizontal stripes. The Jets’ circular primary logo adorns the front of the jersey, which is accompanied by navy helmets and pants and retro-inspired gloves.

“It is a great honour and privilege for True North and the Jets to be able to take part in celebrating the RCAF’s centennial,” Jets chairman Mark Chipman said in a statement on Saturday. “We have been grateful to wear our pride and appreciation for our country’s military, literally over our hearts and on our sleeves, over the past 12 years through the emblem of our Winnipeg Jets.

“We are humbled to further share our appreciation for the selfless service of the men and women working and fighting for our country through our RCAF Flyers inspired specialty jersey for the upcoming season,” Chipman added.

The Jets will celebrate their Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night when they wear “the Forty-Eight” for the first time against the Hurricanes. That night will also serve as the kickoff for the Air Force’s centennial celebrations.

“The Forty-Eight” joins the Jets’ primary home and road jerseys, as well as their navy throwback look inspired by the original Jets, in the club’s uniform rotation for the 2023–24 season.
