Veteran NHL Winger Signs New Contract

Zach Parise Contract Signed

Parise has played for the New Jersey Devils, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders during his 18-year NHL career. Now he joins the Avalanche. The Minneapolis native scored 21 goals and handed out 13 assists for 34 points in 82 games in 2022-23. His Corsi for was 45.6 and is relative Corsi was -5.4. He did not register a point in six Stanley Cup Playoff games this season.

The 39-year-old has scored 429 goals and notched 450 assists for 879 points in 1,224 games. New Jersey originally drafted him in the first round, 17th overall of the 2003 NHL Draft. His best season was with the Devils when he scored 45 goals and racked up 94 points in the 2008-09 season. He played his college hockey at the University of North Dakota for two seasons.

Parise is the son of former NHLer, J.P. Parise. The younger Parise has represented the United States at the international level. He won gold in the 2004 IIHF World Juniors and silver for Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Impact of Zach Parise Contract

Parise had a throwback season where he netted 20-plus goals and stayed healthy for the whole season. He may be at the tail-end of his career, but he’s had some great seasons. His time with the hometown Wild may have ended with a thud. However, he was a consistent 20-30 goal scorer for a number of years.

Parise and Ryan Suter were given a load of expectations a few seasons ago, but things did not work out. Minnesota is going through a load of salary cap pain for the next two seasons due to the twin buyouts. However, Parise was a productive player for a number of years. Some, including Avs General Manager Chris MacFarland feel that he may still have a little more to give. Time will tell.
