Vancouver Canucks sign Noah Juulsen to two-year, two-way contract
? Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

They waited almost until the 11th hour, but the Vancouver Canucks got it done. General manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Noah Juulsen on a two-year two-way contract.

Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team broke the news of the signing late Friday morning, with the team confirming the signing shortly thereafter.

Juulsen, 26, was set to become an unrestricted free agent and would have been free to sign with any team of his choosing as of tomorrow.

Dhaliwal also reported on the details of the contract. In year one, Juulsen’s NHL salary will be 775,000 while his AHL salary will be set at 450,000; and in year two, his NHL salary will be 775,000 and his AHL salary will be 475,000.

This is not the first two-year two-way contract that Allvin has signed the organization’s depth pieces in Abbotsford to. In this calendar year, the Canucks have signed Phil Di Giuseppe, Christian Wolanin, and Guillaume Brisebois to similar deals that are structured with relatively high AHL salaries.

Juulsen finished the year in Vancouver and showed reasonably well slotted in alongside Quinn Hughes on the Canucks’ top pair. He’s a solid depth piece who the Canucks hope they will be able to continue to slide into their top four in a pinch should injuries hit their blue line next season.

The Canucks originally acquired Juulsen along with centre Juho Lammikko in the Olli Juolevi trade the club made with the Florida Panthers in October of 2021.

Over the past two seasons, Juulsen has appeared in 99 regular season games for Abbotsford, tallying 36 points with the Canucks’ AHL affiliate. At the NHL level, Juulsen, a native of Surrey, BC, has suited up for 20 games with his childhood team.

Juulsen was originally selected at 26th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
