Two NHL bets for Tuesday, Jan. 9: Team totals pave the way

There's no shortage of enticing spots on the ice tonight, so we're touching four games with a pair of plays. If you're not as interested in the team total market in the NHL, fret not, we're also calling out some player point props that look best.

Toronto over 3.5 goals, Vancouver over 2.5 goals (+137 DraftKings)

Tonight, Toronto is hosting the San Jose Sharks, a team allowing the second-most goals per game on the road over the past month. One would think that leads to some scoring tonight for the Leafs, who are averaging 3.7 goals per game at home in the same span of time.

Toronto scored four goals against the Sharks just three days ago and owns a decisive offensive edge in this one.

Then we opt for Vancouver to keep the scoring coming. They've scored six goals in two straight. No team is scoring more than the Canucks this year, and they should be able to find at least three goals against an Islanders team allowing 3.1 goals per game at home across the last 30 days.

The Canucks have had New York's number, scoring 3+ goals in six of the past seven meetings, five times going for 4+.

Don't stress too much about Vancouver playing yesterday against the Rangers. In five back-to-backs this season, Vancouver has 3+ goals four times.

Edmonton over 3.5 goals, Boston over 2.5 goals (+104 Fanatics)

The Oilers should be able to dominate this evening in Chicago against a Blackhawks team sans Connor Bedard. The Blackhawks are allowing the second-most goals per game on the year, having allowed 4+ in six of their past nine.

Edmonton is averaging 4.3 goals per game on the road over the last month, and this game conceivably should offer them a chance to get their power play going, Chicago has an ideal combination of allowing plenty of penalties and struggling to stop teams when they hand out these PPs.

The Oilers have 4+ goals in four straight meetings with the Blackhawks.

We'll pair them with Boston to go over 2.5 goals, something the Bruins have done in seven straight games, four of which have come on the road. There's a power-play edge that favors Boston here against Arizona, and they've scored 3+ goals in five of the last six against the Coyotes.

Edmonton points prop to consider: Zach Hyman
Boston points prop to consider: Charlie McAvoy
