Report: Jamie Drysdale Injury is ‘Week-to-Week’
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps the best possible news for the Philadelphia Flyers and Flyers fans: the Jamie Drysdale injury is reportedly “week-to-week”, and is not expected to cost the young defenseman the rest of his season.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported Monday evening that “Word on Jamie Drysdale is he’s out week-to-week with the hope he will be able to return this season.”

Drysdale suffered his upper-body injury after being on the receiving end of a hard hit laid by Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jansen Harkins during the Flyers game on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old popped up and skated off the ice, but it was clear he was in a world of hurt and favoring his left shoulder.

Almost immediately, long-term injury concerns ran rampant amongst Flyers fans. In 2022, during his time with the Anaheim Ducks, Drysdale underwent surgery on this left shoulder to repair a torn labrum, which ended his season after only eight games.

This new injury is perhaps a blessing in disguise for the young Drysdale, as it allows him more time to rest and continue to acclimate to his new home in Philadelphia. Drysdale has been taking some maintenance days lately, even after the Flyers had a day off the day before. It’s possible he wasn’t at 100% health to begin with.

In the interim, the Flyers will turn to players like Travis Sanheim and Cam York to help manufacture complimentary offense in Drysdale’s absence. Perhaps this Drysdale injury update will also put to bed talks of the Flyers abandoning their trade deadline plans in order to sustain their playoff run.

Speaking of playoff runs, we hope Drysdale recovers as quickly as possible and gets as close to 100% as possible so that he can take part in and enjoy his first taste of postseason competition at the NHL level.
