Jonatan Berggren has been a dominant force in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season. The 21-year-old winger sits just three points back of Taro Hirose — four years his senior — for the team scoring lead. After picking up four goals and two assists in his last five games, Berggren has 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in his first 40 AHL contests. The Detroit Red Wings originally selected Berggren with the second pick of the second round (33rd overall) at the 2018 NHL Draft. The 5’11”, 183-lb forward emerged as a Swedish Hockey League star with Skellefteå AIK in 2020–21, finishing sixth in league scoring with 45 points in 49 games and earning an NHL ELC with the Red Wings the following off-season. Berggren picked up an assist in his first AHL game with the Griffins in 2021–22 but failed to register a point in the following four.
