Red Wings’ Greiss, Pickard won’t be available Wednesday against Rangers; expected to promote goalie from Griffins

Two days after being blown out 11-2 by the Pittsburgh Penguins, unfortunately, the Detroit Red Wings’ goaltending situation remains in flux as both Thomas Greiss and Calvin Pickard are still unavailable. Following Tuesday’s practice, coach Jeff Blashill confirmed that neither Greiss nor Pickard will play Wednesday when the New York Rangers visit Little Caesars Arena. As a result, the team is expected to promote a goaltender to backup Alex Nedeljkovic. Greiss, 36, departed last Thursday’s contest against the New York Islanders due to an upper-body injury and has been sidelined ever since then. In 25 games this season, he’s performed to an 8-11-1 record, a 3.79 goals-against average and a .885 save percentage.
