Penguins Place John Ludvig on IR, Recall Ryan Shea

It has now been announced that Ludvig has been placed on injured reserve and Ryan Shea was recalled from the AHL.

This will be Ludvig’s second stint on injured reserve this season, the first time was due to a concussion in his NHL debut.

At the moment, it is unclear what kind of injury Ludvig is dealing with, all head coach Mike Sullivan said following the loss to the Capitals was that Ludvig was ‘a little banged up.’

In 19 games played, Ludvig has recorded just an assist but had been a workhorse in the Penguins lineup.

With three fighting majors and 37 total hits, Ludvig has provided quite a bit of the Penguins physical presence.

In his last game, Ludvig dropped the gloves on the opening faceoff with veteran fighter Matt Martin of the New York Islanders.

It isn’t clear if that’s where the injury has stemmed from as he finished the game without much interruption.

Shea also made his NHL debut this season and has played 22 games without scoring a point from the blue line.
