Penguins' Magnus Hellberg, Alex Nedeljkovic need to step up amid Tristan Jarry's injury

Tyler Yaremchuk was joined by Frank Seravalli to discuss the Pittsburgh Penguins crease on the latest episode of "Daily Faceoff Live."

Tyler Yaremchuk: On Tuesday, the big story came in Pittsburgh as Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry went down and ultimately left the game against the Anaheim Ducks with an injury. He’s a guy who at times has really struggled to stay healthy in his career and I know he had a few blimps this season but he looked good in that Penguins crease and he is a big key in them turning this thing around.

The Penguins are currently sitting dead last in their division, if this is long-term Frank I really wonder how the Penguins are going to survive this.

Frank Seravalli: Survive is a relative term. What it does is it puts a lot of pressure on Magnus Hellberg for the time being to come in and really try to get this team back on track. There’s no question the Pens have struggled, watching some of these other teams, particularly ones with higher expectations like the Oilers and the Flames, with more attention surrounding them. The Sharks have been such a big story so far, the Sens have been talked about a lot.

People haven’t really brought up the fact that the Penguins are carrying the rear of the Metropolitan Division. It’s not just the teams they have in front of them, it’s what’s their path for a team that didn’t make the playoffs last year to suddenly turn it around. Jarry would be a big part of that in terms of hey we need consistent goaltending from a guy that needs to be in the lineup and we say all the time dependability and reliability specifically at this position is one of the best abilities you can have as a goaltender.

That’s been a major question mark for Jarry, I think was a big reason why giving him the term that they did this past summer was a huge risk. So now they’re going to find out what the severity of this injury is and how long he’s going to be out. In the meantime, the rest of the Pens need to get it going.
