Panthers’ Ryan Lomberg to miss Game 2 against Lightning due to illness
? Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

One of the depth players in South Beach will not be playing on Tuesday night.

After morning skate, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice told the media that forward Ryan Lomberg will not play in Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning due to an illness.

Steven Lorentz will draw into the lineup, hopping on the fourth line with Kevin Stenlund and Nick Cousins.

Lomberg played 6:32 in the Panthers’ 3-2 win over the Lightning on Sunday, registering a shot on goal.

The 29-year-old has been healthy for most of the 2023-24 campaign, having been a healthy scratch a couple of times late in the regular season, including Florida’s final game before the playoffs last Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In 75 regular-season games, Lomberg scored five goals and seven points, far off the pace that led him to posting 20 points during the 2022-23 season. In 257 career games, the Richmond Hill, Ontario native has scored 28 goals and 22 assists, including three goals in 25 playoff games.

Lorentz played 38 games during the regular season, potting a goal and three points. This will be the 28-year-old’s first Stanley Cup Playoff appearance in two years. The Kitchener native played 16 games over two postseasons with the Carolina Hurricanes before being traded to the Panthers last July by the San Jose Sharks.

In 230 career NHL games, Lorentz has scored 21 goals and 22 assists.

The Panthers and Lightning will face off from Amerant Bank Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
