The Nashville Predators have signed forward Michael McCarron to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Sunday afternoon.

McCarron, 28, scored two goals and four points in 32 games with the Predators during the 2022–23 season. He’s also appeared in 16 American Hockey League games with the Milwaukee Admirals, collecting two goals and six points.

The Predators acquired McCarron from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Laurent Dauphin back on Jan. 7, 2020. McCarron has appeared in 89 games with the Predators over the last three regular seasons, amassing nine goals and 18 points; he went scoreless in two playoff contests with the team in 2022.

McCarron was set to become an unrestricted free agent this July. His new contract with the Predators carries a $775,000 NHL cap hit for the 2023–24 season.

The Canadiens originally selected McCarron in the first round (No. 25 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. The six-foot-six right wing made his NHL debut with the Canadiens during the 2015–16 regular season and appeared in his first Stanley Cup Playoff game the following year.

McCarron notched eight points (two goals, six assists) in 69 games over parts of three seasons with the Canadiens before playing in the AHL in 2018–19 and 2019–20, splitting the latter campaign between the Laval Rocket and the Admirals.

The Grosse Point, Mich. product then spent most of the 2020–21 season on Nashville’s taxi squad, appearing in just six NHL games all year long, before emerging as a regular with the Predators in 2021–22.

Through 158 NHL games over parts of six regular seasons with the Canadiens and Predators, McCarron has collected 11 goals, 26 points, and 220 penalty minutes.

The Predators finished the 2022–23 season with a 42–32–8 record, finishing fifth in the Central Division and missing the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs by four points.
