Lightning sign two-time Stanley Cup champion

Tampa Bay Lighting general manager Julien BriseBois announced that the club has signed free-agent forward Conor Sheary to a three-year contract worth $6 million. According to CapFriendly, the contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $3 million.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman was the first to report on the contract.

Sheary spent the 2022-23 season with the Washington Capitals, where he collected 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 82 games. Sheary signed a two-year, $3 million extension with the Caps in 2021; he spent the last three seasons in the nation’s capital. While with the Caps’ he collected 102 points in 206 games.

The Winchester, Massachusetts, product was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins following a four-year NCAA career that saw him collect 38 goals and 66 assists for 104 points in 138 games while playing for his home-state team UMass. Sheary made his pro debut in 2014-15 with the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, collecting 20 goals and 45 points in 58 games.

He joined the Penguins club in 2015-16 and was a part of the Penguins’ 2016 Stanley Cup-winning squad, collecting four goals and 10 points in 23 playoff games. He then won a second Stanley Cup with the Penguins the following season as the Penguins repeated as the league champs. During the 2016-17 run, he registered seven points in 22 games.

Following the 2017-18 season, he was dealt to the Buffalo Sabres, where he spent one-and-a-half seasons before subsequently being moved back to the Penguins in a deal that saw Evan Rodrigues come over from Buffalo.

Throughout his eight-season career thus far, Sheary has registered 252 points in 531 regular-season games.
