Jets’ Logan Stanley Getting Considerable Interest in Trade Talks
Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

It appears Logan Stanley may be on the move in a trade, assuming the Winnipeg Jets get an enticing enough offer. The former first-round pick has struggled to get playing time this season, but there are teams that might seem him as a fit on their roster. What is being offered and which teams are involved is not clear.

As per The Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch: “Teams have been kicking the tires on Winnipeg Jets D Logan Stanley.” He adds:

“The 25-year-old is making $1 million and is an RFA. He’s rugged and can block shots. It’s fair to say the Jets aren’t shopping Stanley, but that’s not stopping league executives from calling to see what it might take.”

Drafted 18th overall in 2016, the towering 6-foot-7 defenseman has struggled to meet the expectations for the Jets. He doesn’t seem happy with how the Jets are developing him either. With only 119 NHL appearances, there’s still a lot to potentially unpackage with this player, but he has found himself frequently benched in the 2023-24 season. He’s played only four games and has zero points.

The points aren’t a huge issue as he’s viewed as primarily a stay-at-home defenseman. That said, the 25-year-old blueliner has accumulated 20 career points in his 119 games, so he can add a bit of offense. What makes him attractive is that he’s big and rugged, with 157 blocks and 228 hits. Teams would certainly be interested in adding that element, especially if the feel they’re lacking it.

Stanley Is Likely Looking For a Fresh Start

Enduring a frustrating 2022-23 campaign, Stanley reportedly asked for a trade. He made only 19 appearances due to a combination of injuries and being scratched from the lineup. But, in August of 2023, Stanley signed his one-year, $1 million qualifying offer. The hope was that he would play enough to up his value, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the way things are trending.

As he approaches restricted free agency with salary arbitration rights next July, the defenseman is set to receive the same qualifying amount. If he were able to move to a team that sees him in a bigger role, it could be good for both his short and long-term prospects. Early buzz is that Detroit, Edmonton, and Toronto might kick tires here. The Maple Leafs are looking for size. How much he can help this season is their key factor in making a move.
