Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook expected to be ready for next season after knee surgery

Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook is expected to be good to go for the start of the 2021-22 NHL season after undergoing knee surgery ahead of the summer months. Whether or not he will be with the Hurricanes at that time remains unknown.

On Wednesday, the Hurricanes confirmed that Martinook has had successful meniscal debridement surgery on his right knee. The veteran who turns 29 years old next month should make a full recovery by October.

Martinook recorded four goals and nine assists across 44 regular-season games during the 2020-21 campaign and added three assists in 11 playoff contests. Carolina fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second round of the postseason tournament.

Per Brett Finger of Canes Country, Martinook is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July but said last week he's open to staying put:

"I came here three years ago and I felt like I was part of the culture change a little bit. I can put a feather in my cap in that," he explained at that time. "Feel like there’s a group of us that have been here three years that have been the driving force of trying to turn this thing around. I feel like we have. Willy always used the term, ‘Relevant’ and I think we are definitely there. Obviously, I want to see it through. I think we’re right there. We’re so close. If I were to go somewhere else, it’d be tough to see if they were to win here because I feel like I was a big part of it. At the end of the day, it’s a business and I want to stay here, but I have a family. I just had a baby girl. I have to look out for myself and my family, but at the end of the day I want to be a Hurricane and hopefully, we can make that happen."
