Golden Knights recall goaltender Michael Hutchinson
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Vegas Golden Knights announced on Monday afternoon that they have recalled goaltender Michael Hutchinson from the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League (AHL).

In one aspect, recalling Michael Hutchinson helps prove how important it is to have goaltending depth, which the Golden Knights have plenty of right now. However, it is extremely unfortunate that this had to happen, as it comes at the expense of Adin Hill, who suffered an injury during Saturday night’s win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. He had been rolling with wins in four straight starts.

At this point, Hill is being listed as day-to-day, meaning Hutchinson’s stay could be short. Still, it is extremely concerning given that Logan Thompson is already out of the lineup and is slated to miss a good amount of time.

Thompson’s injury resulted in the recall of Laurent Brossoit, who is in line to start on Tuesday night versus the Chicago Blackhawks. The veteran netminder was forced to miss training camp as he continued to recover from hip surgery, and was assigned to the AHL once healthy. In 23 games with the Silver Knights, he recorded a 2.72 GAA along with a .909 SV%.

As for Hutchinson, his 2022-23 season has been a frustrating one, as he has struggled to get playing time with the Silver Knights. The journeyman has appeared in just seven contests this season, recording a 2.74 GAA along with a .897 SV%. Those numbers certainly aren’t inspiring, but he has logged 137 NHL games over his career, proving he is capable of stepping in and making a few starts for the Golden Knights should he be required to do so.
