Carter Hart has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the Philadelphia Flyers, team general manager Daniel Briere announced Tuesday.
The leave was granted for Hart, 25, with the club citing “personal reasons,” saying they would have no further comment.
The netminder has appeared in 26 games this season for the Flyers, posting a 12-9-3 record, .906 save percentage and a 2.8 goals against average. Hart has been in and out of the Flyers’ lineup for the last number of weeks, dealing with what the team has called an “illness.”
In the middle of December, Hart told NBC Sports the issue has been “going on for a while.”
“I used to never get sick and now I think I’ve been sick three times in the last month, so something is going on,” Hart said. “It’s good that we got to the bottom of it and figured it out. Now I can take the right steps to treat it and fix it and feel better going forward.”
Playing in the final year of a three-year deal paying him $3.979-million AAV, Hart is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason.
The Flyers subsequently placed forward Owen Tippett on the injured reserve, recalling goaltender Cal Petersen from the AHL’s Leigh Valley Phantoms.
Reaves is back
The Toronto Maple Leafs have activated Ryan Reaves from the injured reserve, days after a profile of the rugged winger was written on Sportsnet where he said he had been ready for “a couple weeks now.”
Reaves, 37, signed a three-year deal paying him $1.35-million with the Leafs this past offseason, and has appeared in 21 games this year. Prior to the injury that landed him on the reserve, Reaves had been healthy scratched in several games.
“That’s a question for them. I am not in those rooms, in those conversations. I’m not going to speculate anything,” Reaves said in the Sportsnet story about why he hadn’t been in the lineup. “Just stay ready. And if I get called upon, I do. If I don’t, I get my work in.”
In that same story, Reaves said he has been dealing with “loose knees” due to multiple tears in both.
Zellweger’s debut
The Anaheim Ducks recalled top prospect Olen Zellweger from the AHL’s San Diego Gulls Tuesday with the defenceman set to make his debut that night.
With the Ducks taking on the Buffalo Sabres in Anaheim’s Honda Center, Zellweger is set to play on their third pair alongside Ilya Lyubushkin.
Drafted by the Ducks 34th overall in the 2021 draft, Zellweger has appeared in 34 AHL games this season scoring eight goals and 25 points.

Before turning pro with the Gulls this season, Zellweger established himself as a standout defenseman over parts of five Western Hockey League campaigns with the Everett Silvertips and Kamloops Blazers.
The 5’10” left-handed defenseman collected 32 goals and 80 points in just 55 games split between the Silvertips and Blazers during the 2022–23 WHL regular season. He added 11 goals and 29 points in 14 playoff games with Kamloops.
Zellweger is skating in the first year of his entry-level contract with the Ducks. He joins an already very young Anaheim defensive group that also includes Jackson LaCombe, Gustav Lindstrom, Urho Vaakanainen, the injured Pavel Mintyukov, and veterans Cam Fowler, Radko Gudas, and Ilya Lyubushkin.
