Flyers' Carter Hart out vs. Hurricanes with eye infection

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without a key figure for Monday's holiday afternoon game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Per Adam Kimelman of the NHL's website, Flyers interim coach Mike Yeo confirmed that goalie Carter Hart won't face Carolina due to an eye infection.

"The swelling is obviously a big issue for his vision," Yeo explained, according to Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now.

Martin Jones will get the nod for at least Monday's contest. Thus far this season, Jones has gone 6-9-2 with a 3.58 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage. The 15-25-9 Flyers host the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

"I'm hopeful that he can be available for us tomorrow, but I'm not 100% sure," Yeo added about Hart. "But I don't think it's a long-term problem here."

23-year-old Kirill Ustimenko was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League to serve as Jones' backup.

The Flyers have dropped 17 of their last 19 matchups and are tied with the New Jersey Devils for last place in the Metropolitan Division standings.

"For sure, everybody — players out front, players on D, goalies — are battling confidence right now," Yeo remarked about the roster. "But I have zero concerns about that. I know the work he (Hart) is putting in in practice, the attitude he has; it’s just a matter of kind of getting that good feeling back, and it’s going to come for him. We’re starting to give up fewer chances — obviously, this will be a tough test today against this team — but if we continue to do those things, then we’ll give him a chance to start building some confidence and start building that swagger that all good goalies have."
