Forward Jake Guentzel appears set to make his debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night against the visiting New York Rangers.

Guentzel, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, was on the ice for the morning skate. The 29-year-old hasn't played since Feb. 14 due to a shoulder injury, but has 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists) in 50 games this season.

"I think there's a real good possibility," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters after the morning skate. "He'll take warmup and we'll see where it goes, but all indications are I think he will (play)."

Carolina also received defenseman Ty Smith in the deal from Pittsburgh, which received forward Michael Bunting, a pair of prospects and 2024 first- and fifth-round conditional draft picks and the rights to forward Cruz Lucius.

The Hurricanes entered Tuesday's matchup four points behind the first-place Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.
