On Saturday afternoon, the LA Kings announced that they signed goaltending prospect Erik Portillo to a two-year entry-level contract.

Per the LA Kings, the contract goes through next season (2023-2024) and has an annual average value of $875,000. Earlier in the day, per the AHL transaction log, Portillo was released from his ATO (amateur tryout) that he signed with the Ontario Reign on April 10th. That move paved the way for him to sign his entry-level contract.

Just like Laferriere’s entry-level contract, Portillo’s first year of the contract will be burned and end next season. Portillo will most likely be in the AHL next season, which means the LA Kings must turn their attention to re-signing Joonas Korpisalo, figuring out the Cal Petersen situation, and whether Matthew Villalta (restricted free agent) will be back or not.
