Don’t expect Dylan Larkin’s injury to change Detroit Red Wings’ Trade Deadline plans
? Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

With just three days before the NHL Trade Deadline, many are concerned about what their teams might do in order to better their team heading into the playoffs.

One team on the cusp of breaking a rather long postseason drought is the Detroit Red Wings. However, the Original Six franchise was dealt a blow on Monday, when it was announced that captain Dylan Larkin is expected to be out for the next two weeks with a lower-body injury.

The former Michigan Wolverine has been on a tear this season, leading the team with 54 points in 55 games, even though he had to miss six games earlier this season.

Some are wondering if general manager Steve Yzerman is going to make a move to fill the hole Larkin has left behind before Friday. However, the former captain might stand pat with whatever plan he has previously laid out.

Currently, the Red Wings (33-22-6) are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for fourth in the Atlantic Division, both teams holding on to the two Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference.

During the Ask DFO segment on Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli explains why Yzerman is not the one to make rash decisions because of an injury to one of his star players.

Frank Seravalli: Approximately two weeks, which could be a shade less than that on Larkin. I think they’re in a spot where they’ve played well enough to be a bonafide playoff team. I think they can really be an intriguing first-round matchup. I understand everyone has pegged the chances of everyone coming out of the East—not saying the Wings are likely by any stretch—but I wouldn’t put a deeper playoff run past Detroit.
