Daniel Sprong out, Jared McCann to participate in warmups ahead of Game 4

Seattle Kraken coach Dave Hakstol has confirmed that forward Daniel Sprong is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury and will miss Game 4 against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday evening.

Sprong left Game 3 early in the second period with the injury.

Sprong, 26, has struggled throughout the playoffs, scoring just one goal and adding another assist. He has no points in the second round against Dallas, with both of his points coming in an overtime win in Game 4. He has averaged below 10 minutes a night while playing in a limited role, which is tough to see after scoring a career-high 21 goals and 46 points during the regular season this year.

Sprong dealt with an undisclosed injury at the start of the playoffs and perhaps wasn’t 100 percent by the time the post-season kicked off.

The injury could pave the way for the return of Jared McCann, who is set to take warmups with the team on Tuesday. McCann, the team’s top scorer during the regular season, was injured on a hit by Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar in Game 4 of the opening round. Makar has subsequently suspended a game, while McCann just started skating for the first time ahead of Game 3.

The Kraken currently lead the best-of-seven series 2-1, carrying on strong after beating the Avalanche in seven games. That was the first series victory for the Kraken who had just qualified for the postseason for the first time. Yanni Gourde is the team’s top scorer with nine points, while Justin Schultz (eight), Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz (both seven) have also been big contributors.

Game 5 is set to take place in Dallas on Thursday, with a potential Game 6 set for Saturday back in Seattle. If Game 7 is needed, it’ll conclude Monday, May 15 in Dallas.
