Dallas Stars sign Arttu Hyry to two-year entry-level contract

Hyry recorded 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) and finished with a plus-19 rating in 55 regular-season games for Kärpät in Liiga (Finland) this season. He ranked third in goals, and fifth in points on the club. Hyry added three goals in 11 playoff games.

In his Liiga career, Hyry has totaled 53 points (27 goals, 26 assists) in 147 regular-season games from 2020-24, and added five goals in 22 postseason appearances. He had his best statistical season in 2018-19, when he racked up 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists) in 49 games and added six goals and seven points in seven playoff games. 

At 6-foot-2, 209 pounds, Hyry (Oulu native) adds yet another Finnish presence to the Dallas dressing room. Already on the Stars roster and playing huge roles are Roope Hintz (Nokia), Miro Heiskanen (Espoo), Esa Lindell (Vantaa) and Jani Hakanpaa (Kirkkonummi). 

Dallas has the most Finnish players (now five after losing Joel Kiviranta and adding Hyry) in the NHL. 

The news comes on the heels of a special announcement for both the Stars and Finland. On March 12, the NHL announced that the Stars would play the Florida Panthers in Tampere, Finland in November as part of the 2024 NHL Global Series. The game will take place about 15 kilometers from Hintz’s hometown. 

Dallas plays its final game on Wednesday, a nationally televised (TNT) matchup at home against the St. Louis Blues. The Stars have already clinched the Central Division and can secure the top seed in the Western Conference with a win. They lead the Vancouver Canucks by four points with one fewer game remaining.
