Coyote’s Andrew Ladd announces retirement

Andrew Ladd, the former Arizona Coyote announced his retirement from the NHL this past week in an Instagram post. The 37-year-old played for six different NHL teams over his 16 year career in the league.

“I’ll forever be grateful for how the game shaped me as a person and the people it brought into my life,” Ladd said in his social media post.

The No. 4 pick in the 2004 draft started his journey with the Carolina Hurricanes where he played in 137 games and scored 26 goals for the Hurricanes. The left wing went on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets, New York Islanders and finished with the Arizona Coyotes.

During his time with Coyotes, Ladd played in 51 games, averaging 14 minutes of ice time for the franchise, scoring seven goals and adding five assists.

Ladd played his 1,000th game with the Coyotes in April of 2022. Prior to the 2022-23 season with the Coyotes, it was announced that Ladd failed his physical due to lingering knee issues and that he would be placed on injury reserve for the entirety of the season.

“As I reflect on the journey, the 1,001 games, the 2 Stanley Cups, the opportunity to captain a Canadian city, what I’m most grateful for is the people,” Ladd said.

Ladd won a Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Hurricanes and in 2010 with the Blackhawks. Ladd ended his career with 10k games, 256 goals, 294 assists and 407 takeaways.
