Blues Player of the Game vs. Stars
USA TODAY Sports

Selecting a player of the game can be tough at times, especially when multiple players had a solid game.

In the St. Louis Blues' 2-1 shootout loss against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, I'm picking goalie Jordan Binnington as my Player of the Game, but I'll mention also that I was really impressed with Oskar Sundqvist, so if you can have a 1-A and a 1-B, this would be the case.

But Binnington deserves the POTG for me and how can he not?

There were several key saves in that game at American Airlines Center in Dallas that gave the Blues the chance to win the hockey game.

The one on Joe Pavelski was served up as the appetizer for the night:

Then there were others, including one on Wyatt Johnston late in the second on the doorstep:

There was one on Miro Heiskanen in overtime, another on Jason Robertson also in OT. It was that kind of night.

But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the game Sundqvist played. He played 15:07 and was a disruptive force on the ice with his penalty kill prowess, he drew two penalties to give the Blues two power plays, he had a key block in OT killing a penalty and his presence just seems to make a difference for this team.

For those that think Sundqvist is just another fourth-line presence and doesn't matter, think again. This acquisition by Doug Armstrong could go a long way in helping to determine whether the Blues can get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs or not.
