Nylander, 25, is a former eighth overall pick of the Buffalo Sabres in 2016, and also spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks before he was dealt to the Penguins in 2022 for Sam Lafferty. Nylander got into his first NHL action in almost three years last season, playing nine games with the Penguins and registering a goal and an assist for two points in that time. He was also productive in the AHL last season with the Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins with 25 goals, 25 assists and 50 points in 55 games.

Johnsson, 28, was a free-agent signing by the Penguins, having previously worked with Pens general manager Kyle Dubas when they were both with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Johnsson struggled significantly in the NHL last season, only playing 13 games between the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks and registering only three assists. He was also demoted to the AHL for the first time since 2018, and had 9 goals, 21 assists and 30 points in 36 games with the Utica Comets.

Shore, 29, is another player of note on the waiver wire, as he has eight seasons, 422 regular-season games and four playoff games of NHL experience. He got into 47 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season, where he had one goal, eight assists and nine points. He also saw his first demotion to the AHL since 2015-16, where he had two goals, three assists and five points in five games with the Bakersfield Condors. The Kraken signed Shore to a one-year, $775,000 contract in the 2023 offseason.
