Would Kyle Rudolph return to the NFC North?

With top pass-catching tight end Robert Tonyan coming off of an ACL tear and soon-to-be 17-year veteran Marcedes Lewis growing older, should the Green Bay Packers consider bringing on some more pass-catching help at the tight end spot?

It might be a smart move considering each of their three backup tight ends in Josiah Deguara (year-and-a-half removed from ACL tear), Dominque Dafney (predominantly a fullback) and Tyler Davis (spent most of 2021 on the practice squad) have either had injuries or just haven't played enough. A veteran like Kyle Rudolph could be a very solid addition for Matt LaFleur's team.

The Packers know all about Rudolph. He spent the first decade of his career in Minnesota (2011-2020). Before spending his 2021 season with the New York Giants, Rudolph started 145 out of 156 games at tight end for the Minnesota Vikings. He has played in more than 15 games in eight of his 11 career seasons. The two-time Pro Bowl tight end's best season came in 2016 when he recorded a career-best 82 catches for a career-best 840 yards and seven touchdowns. The former Pro Bowl MVP is now looking for a new team after the Giants released him in March after a down season.

The 32-year old has nearly 480 receptions, over 4,700 receiving yards and almost 50 receiving touchdowns in his career. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing almost 270 pounds, Rudolph would be a massive nightmare in the red zone for any opposing defense. He could bring even more experience to an offense in Green Bay that is thriving with experienced players. His pass-catching talent can help this offense because it will help take the pressure off of players like Tonyan and an aging Lewis. A two-year deal worth around $4M per year makes sense, especially because Tonyan is entering a contract year. The addition of Rudolph would immediately improve the passing offense and create more depth at the tight end spot.
