Watch: 49ers long snapper uses sign language to taunt D.K. Metcalf

There’s no question there’s bad blood between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, and 49ers long snapper Taybor Pepper has taken the smack-talking to another level.

In a video posted to his personal X account, Pepper mocked Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf using sign language — a tactic Metcalf had recently begun using as a means to trash talk without getting fined by the league.

The video of Pepper’s message to Metcalf is below.

Loosely translated, Pepper said: “14 (Metcalf’s number), f--k around and find out.”

The 29-year-old Pepper was seemingly clapping back at Metcalf, who used ASL to taunt Los Angeles Rams cornerback Akhello Witherspoon, signing “44, my son,” and Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland, signing “stand on business,” after scoring touchdowns against both.

Metcalf was held to just two receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s loss. It marked the second-fewest receptions Metcalf has had this season and snapped a streak of four games with at least three or more catches.

Pepper’s video was just the latest way the 49ers have found to get under Metcalf’s skin. Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Monday morning that 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had incentivized his players to mess with Metcalf during Sunday’s 28-16 win over Seattle.

The ploy worked as Metcalf, along with cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, was ejected in the fourth quarter of the contest after getting into a scuffle with two 49ers players.
