Vikings trade into the top three in a new mock draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL Draft is less than a week away, and teams are preparing to welcome their 2024 rookie classes.

In a recent three-round mock draft, the Minnesota Vikings shook up the 2024 NFL Draft by successfully trading into the top three.

Trade:

The Vikings sent picks 11 and 23, along with a 2025 1st-round pick, to the New England Patriots, who sent pick 3.

Round 1, Pick 3: Jayden Daniels, LSU

Matthew Dobbins-USA TODAY Sports

"Here's the first big change from my previous mock drafts. While the player remains the same, I have the Patriots trading out of the pick here with the Vikings to land three first-round picks to drop back eight spots. It's no secret that the Vikings would love to land a top rookie QB in this class, and while typically, I've had them trade up for McCarthy with Daniels on the board, I think they add the reigning Heisman winner to their offense to work with fellow former LSU player and now All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson."

If any team has the motivation and capital to trade into the top three, it's the Vikings. They are currently set to start Sam Darnold, and we've seen how that ride ends already. No matter which QB they select here, the Vikings clearly want to move up and select their next franchise QB. Whether it's Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, or J.J. McCarthy, but if they are able to get up to three, I believe it would be whichever of Daniels or Maye wasn't selected at two by the Washington Commanders, and in this mock, that is Daniels.
