Vikings QB depth chart features three newer faces

The Vikings lost quarterback Kirk Cousins to a season-ending torn Achilles recently, paving the way for fifth-round pick Jaren Hall to make his starting debut in Week 9. Hall's first NFL start was short-lived, however, as the 25-year-old suffered a concussion in the first quarter, leading the newly acquired Joshua Dobbs to enter and eventually lead Minnesota to a 31-28 win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Dobbs was acquired by the Vikings in a deal with the Arizona Cardinals hours before the Oct. 31 trade deadline.

2015 third-round pick Sean Mannion first joined Minnesota in April 2019 and played three games (making one start) that season. He re-signed with the club in March 2020 but didn't appear in any games that year.

Mannion spent one month on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad in 2021 before joining the Vikings again in September that year. He played and started one game that season (his most recent NFL contest), finishing 22-for-36 for 189 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Mannion re-signed with Minnesota in March 2022 but was released in August and re-signed with the Seahawks practice squad, where he spent all of last season. He joined the Vikings on their practice squad yet again last month.

The 24-year-old Tanner Morgan first signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in April but was released in late August. He initially joined Minnesota's practice squad in early October and was released less than one week later, before re-signing with the practice squad on Wednesday.

Morgan is somewhat of a local product for the Vikings, playing five seasons for the University of Minnesota from 2018-2022.

The Vikings' unique quarterback situation has been caused not only by Cousins' and Hall's injuries, but by 28-year-old Nick Mullens' circumstances as well. Mullens (who signed a two-year contract extension with the team in March) was placed on injured reserve in October due to a back ailment.
