Top tight end prospect names surprising team as desired destination

Brock Bowers, the best college football tight end for the past two seasons, might have made the Titans 2024 draft decision a whole lot easier on Wednesday.

When asked by NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms on Wednesday, the two-time John Mackey Award winner made it clear where he wants to play next season.

Bowers is the No. 6 overall prospect in ESPN's best-available list. In three seasons with Georgia, he had 175 receptions for 2,538 yards while adding 193 yards on 19 rush attempts. His 31 total touchdowns rank eighth in program history.

As Simms noted, it's unusual for a prospect to openly signal which team he wants to draft him. The Titans are also a surprising pick with the Chargers looming as a potential destination at No. 5 overall.

Los Angeles is more settled at the quarterback position with Justin Herbert and is expected to make a quick turnaround under Jim Harbaugh, who has won everyone he's coached.

Bowers' comment is a positive sign for Titans first-year head coach Brian Callahan, who was signed in January, and quarterback Will Levis, who showed promise as a rookie.

Callahan was the Bengals offensive coordinator from 2019-23 and arguably did his most impressive job this past season with backup quarterback Jake Browning.

A 2019 undrafted free agent, the former Washington Huskies quarterback saw his first NFL action in 2023 and led the league in completion percentage (70.4 percent), throwing for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions in seven starts.

Levis took over as Titans starting quarterback in Week 8 and won his first start, 28-23 against the Falcons, becoming the third quarterback in NFL history to throw four touchdowns in his NFL debut. He also led a memorable comeback on "Monday Night Football" against the Dolphins in Week 14, rallying Tennessee from a 14-point deficit with three minutes remaining for a 28-27 win.

Tennessee holds the No. 7 pick in April's NFL Draft. If Bowers is available, it will be hard to argue against selecting him to give its young quarterback an electrifying playmaker.

The Titans could use an offensive tackle such as Notre Dame's Joe Alt or Penn State's Olu Fashanu if either is available, but tackle is also arguably the draft's deepest position.

ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid has eight offensive tackles in his most recent top 50 big board. Tennessee selects 38th in Round 2 and could use that pick to address its offensive line after it grants Bowers' wish.
