Todd Gurley uses April Fools' Day to campaign for NFL job

Running back Todd Gurley is a three-time Pro Bowl selection, two-time All-Pro and one-time Offensive Player of the Year who is looking for a new NFL home after he rushed for 678 yards and nine touchdowns across 195 carries with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020.

Gurley teased fans on Thursday that he was on the verge of breaking free-agency news:

That, however, was little more than an April Fools' Day prank used to remind would-be suitors that he's available and wants to play later this year:

The NFL salary cap has dropped by nearly $16 million to account for financial losses endured throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning there isn't much of a market out there for a veteran ball-carrier who is no longer an RB1 and might not be much of an RB2 for a contending team. "Washed is probably an understatement," Ian Hartitz of Pro Football Focus wrote of Gurley in early March. "It’s tough to imagine anyone signing up to give Gurley a true featured role again."

While Michael Obermuller of FanDuel recently linked Gurley with the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and San Francisco 49ers, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote that the 26-year-old "may have to decide whether he’s willing to play for the minimum or not play at all — if he even gets an offer to do that."
