Three-time Pro Bowl RB Todd Gurley visiting with Lions

Could three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time First-team All-Pro running back Todd Gurley once again be teammates with quarterback Jared Goff?

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Nick Shook) reports Gurley is visiting with the Detroit Lions on Thursday and undergoing a physical. The veteran ball-carrier, who turns 27 years old in August, played alongside Goff when the two were with the Los Angeles Rams but spent the 2020 season with the Atlanta Falcons. Goff, meanwhile, officially joined the Lions via a March trade.

Gurley's offensive production fell off a cliff the past two years, so much so that Ian Hartitz of Pro Football Focus wrote in March that "washed is probably an understatement" when describing Gurley. During his one and only campaign with Atlanta, Gurley averaged a paltry 3.5 yards per carry and managed a career-worst 678 rushing yards on 195 attempts.

Recently, new Lions offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn suggested while speaking with The Athletic that free-agent acquisition Jamaal Williams will be Detroit's primary back ahead of 2020 rookie D'Andre Swift. Adding Gurley to the mix could allow the Lions to get the most out of a so-called "earth, wind and fire" attack.
