The Titans Add A Key Veteran On Defense
Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans finally caught a break after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3.

However, it was not an impressive victory because they nearly allowed the Raiders to tie the game in the second half.

Tennessee’s defense couldn’t contain Las Vegas’ passing game, giving up 300 yards.

Their problems compound because they give up 401.3 yards per game (seventh-worst in the league).

They also give up 145 rushing yards per game, with only the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, and Houston Texans having far worse averages.

The Titans are also ranked 29th in points allowed at 28 per game.

Injuries to Bud Dupree, Ola Adeniyi, and Harold Landry III do not help their cause either.

For that reason, Tennessee brought in a veteran presence to have more bite on defense.

Pro Football Focus writer Ari Meirov tweeted that the Titans signed linebacker Joe Schobert to their practice squad.

A Glimpse Of Schobert’s NFL Career

Schobert was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He stayed there for four seasons before signing a five-year, $53.75 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, the Jaguars traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers after one season.

Schobert signed with the Denver Broncos during the 2022 offseason but did not make the final roster.

Now, he will try to crack the Titans’ active roster as one of the 16-man practice squad.

Schobert led the league in tackles in 2017 and earned a Pro Bowl nod in the same year.

He has 661 tackles, 11 sacks, ten interceptions, 30 pass deflections, and a defensive touchdown in seven NFL seasons.

As a veteran member of the practice squad, he can earn from $15,400 to $19,900 weekly.

A seasoned player like him can help the Titans in Week 4 when they face the division rival Indianapolis Colts.
