The good and bad of the Ravens' latest signing

The Ravens needed to add another cornerback to their room after All-Pro CB Marlon Humphrey suffered a foot injury and is expected to be out for over a month. So, Baltimore signed veteran CB Ronald Darby on Thursday. Here's what's good and bad about the move.

The Good

Darby fills the clear void that Humphrey leaves. He's more of an outside corner, which is exactly what the team needed after Humphrey went down. The likely Week 1 starters will now be Darby, Rock Ya-Sin and Arthur Maulet.

The 29-year-old also brings a ton of experience as a former second-round pick who is heading into his ninth season. Darby hasn't been able to stick to a team the last few years, bouncing around the league, but that is expected for an aging corner.

Lastly, Darby comes at a pretty cheap price, signing a one-year, $3.2M contract. The deal works out well for Baltimore as the team still has $8.77M in cap space for any other necessary moves.

The Bad

There is more good than bad, which supports the idea that it was an overall good move for the Ravens. However, Darby does bring some question marks to Baltimore.

Joining any team this late in the offseason is an uphill battle. So, one of the biggest questions will be how long it will take him to get up to speed with the start of the regular season just a few weeks away.

Darby also tore his ACL last October after playing in just five games for the Broncos. If he is fully healthy, he should be able to fill in for Humphrey in his absence. But if he isn't, the Ravens will find themselves back to square one with less money to spend.
