The Bears Released An Intriguing WR Option
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are not yet done tinkering with their roster.

With their season-opener against the San Francisco 49ers just around the corner, they continue to refine their depth chart until they come up with their final roster of 53 men.

This time, they have reduced their wide receiver corps by releasing Dazz Newsome.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted, “The #Bears are waiving WR Dazz Newsome, per source. Speedy sixth-round pick last year now headed for a fresh start.”

Bears beat reporter Nicholas Moreano shed some light on Newsome’s performance at training camp by saying, “These last few practices Dazz Newsome was inconsistent. He would make a nice catch and then follow it up with a bad drop. For someone trying to make the team, he couldn’t afford to play like that.”

Newsome was selected 221st overall by the Bears in the 2021 draft and ended up playing three games.

He started one game for the Bears and finished with two catches for 23 yards.

With his release, the 2019 Second-Team All-ACC member could continue his NFL career with another team.

Not Much Dent On The Bears’ Rotation

Newsome’s release creates a minor ripple in the Bears’ wide receiver pool.

They still have Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle, and Velus Jones Jr., who are the projected starters at wideout.

Supporting them are Equanimeous St. Brown, N’Keal Harry, and Dante Pettis.

The Bears also have Tajae Sharpe, Nsimba Webster, Isaiah Coulter, Chris Finke, Kevin Shaa, and David Moore.

Their tight end rotation is also complete with Cole Kmet, Ryan Griffin, and James O’Shaughnessy.

The Bears will target a perfect preseason with a win against the Cleveland Browns on August 27.

More importantly, they hope to carry that momentum to the regular season and possibly the playoffs.
