The 10 best trash talkers in the NFL

There's a fair share of great trash talkers in the NFL, so it's hard to narrow it down to just 10. To make this list, as the saying goes, you have to walk the walk in addition to talking the talk.

Here are the 10 best NFL trash talkers in 2019:

Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns

The wide receiver position has some of the best trash talkers in the league, and "OBJ" can hold his own against the best of them, especially when cornerback Josh Norman is involved. Beckham has been known to even do a little talking and jawing with a net or trash can along the sidelines.

Just this past week, New York Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams received Beckham's wrath when the wideout claimed his new Browns teammates told him Williams ordered Cleveland defenders to "take a shot at him" during a preseason game two years ago.

Beckham should continue to spice things up with the Browns, which is suddenly a team with plenty of spice.

Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns

Speaking of that spice in Cleveland, ever since he placed the Oklahoma flag on the Ohio State 50-yard line a couple of years ago, fans knew they were getting one of the great new quarterback trash talkers in Mayfield. It didn't take long for him to trash former Browns coach Hue Jackson last year, which also led to some interesting interactions with sports personality Colin Cowherd.

This summer, Mayfield told GQ that he couldn't "believe the Giants took Daniel Jones" at No. 6 overall. Mayfield says that quote was taken out of context, but it still made major waves in the media.

Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

From the "superman" celebration to his dabbing, Newton knows how to rub it in when things are going his way. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't looked sharp to begin this season, but that's probably only going to slow down his trash talking a little.

Two years ago, NFL players voted Newton the biggest "trash-talking" quarterback in an ESPN survey.

Josh Norman, Washington Redskins

Norman will probably always be remembered most for his part in the baseball bat incident with Beckham back in 2015, but he engages in a fair amount of trash talking every year. Just last week, Norman threw some shade toward Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott after he posted a perfect passer rating in Week 1.

"You stand back there in the pocket all day and go through your first, second and third reads and come back to your first one, OK, cool," Norman said. "Anybody can do that. You could throw the ball if that's the case."

Jalen Ramsey, Jacksonville Jaguars

Where to begin? Ramsey is probably the best trash talker in the NFL right now.

He's called A.J. Green "soft and weak," said he doesn't respect Steve Smith "as a man," claimed Andrew Luck isn't that good, muttered Ben Roethlisberger is "decent at best" and stated Matt Ryan is overrated. Yet all of those players could be Hall of Famers one day.

All of that trash talking has come since the last two years, and those are just some of the highlights.

Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers

The faithful Christian quarterback doesn't curse, but he still makes this list. Rivers has chirped with opponents and officials for the last decade and a half, making for some really entertaining television.

He's definitely a character.

Richard Sherman, San Francisco 49ers

The former member of the Legion of Boom needed only one moment of trash talking to make this list. That came after the 2014 NFC championship game victory against the San Francisco 49ers when he practically screamed at Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews.

"I'm the best corner in the game," Sherman said during a postgame interview. "When you try me with a sorry receiver like (Michael) Crabtree, that's the result you're going to get. Don't you ever talk about me."

Sherman isn't the same player or talker as he was five years ago, but he's still one of the best trash talkers when he wants to be.

Terrell Suggs, Arizona Cardinals

The seven-time Pro Bowler trash talked for the Baltimore Ravens for over 16 years, but the Ravens were on the opposite side of that when Suggs returned to Baltimore with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

Suggs has been seen trash talking to quarterbacks throughout his NFL playing days, especially to Roethlisberger, who he's played extremely well against in his career.

Aqib Talib, Los Angeles Rams

Another cornerback who has a feud with Crabtree makes the list. Talib has engaged with lots of players in trash talking, but he will be remembered most for breaking Crabtree's chain necklace during a regular-season game late in 2016.

"I said if he wears that chain in front of me, I'm going to snatch it off," Talib said about the incident. "He wore it in front of me, so I had to snatch it off. He started crying to the ref. He didn't say nothing to me, though."

Bill Belichick, New England Patriots

Known more for snubbing reporters during press conferences, Belichick can be a trash talker when he wants to be. He's also the king of subtle digs, like in 2015 when he responded to Mike Tomlin's claim that the Steelers always have trouble with their headsets during games at Foxborough.

"First of all, I would say that I think our program here is built on competition and trying to improve every day and trying to work hard, and it's not built on excuses," Belichick said.

Last year, Belichick and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen engaged in a heated exchange during a challenge in which it appeared Belichick told the wideout to "shut up."

If only he said more things like that in his press conferences.
