Texans QB Davis Mills: 'Being named a starter for an NFL franchise is pretty cool'

It was reported earlier this week that Houston Texans head coach David Culley would go back to rookie quarterback Davis Mills as his starter with veteran Tyrod Taylor dealing with an injury to his non-throwing wrist. Culley confirmed Friday that Mills will be his QB1 for the remainder of the season as long as the third-round pick is healthy.

Mills, who previously went 0-6 as a starter when Taylor was hurt earlier this fall, spoke with reporters Friday about being given the keys to Houston's offense for more than a test drive ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

"Being named a starter for an NFL franchise is pretty cool," Mills explained, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "I don’t know if I need to go out there and prove anything. I just need to go out there and play my best."

Mills filled in for the banged-up Taylor in last Sunday's blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts and completed 6-of-14 passes for 49 yards. Thus far this season, the first-year pro has connected on 146-of-223 attempts for 1,406 yards with seven touchdowns, eight interceptions and one lost fumble.

He'll now attempt to defeat a Seattle side that may be on the cusp of losing star quarterback Russell Wilson to an offseason trade this coming winter.
