Suggs To Ravens' Ring of Honor
Kareem Elgazzar

Terrell Suggs will become a permanent fixture of the Baltimore Ravens' future. The team announced on Thursday that the former outside linebacker will become the 14th member of the Ravens Ring of Honor display at M&T Bank Stadium. Suggs spent all but one season of a 17-year NFL career in Charm City and partook in the team's run to Super Bowl XLVII, the latter of two championships.

"You are a prime example of what it means to Play Like a Raven," Ravens executive vice president Ozzie Newsome said to Suggs in a team statement announcing the news. "For 16 seasons, it was a joy watching you perform in the purple and black. Through your leadership, dedication, and dominance, you helped elevate our standard."

Suggs' induction will take place on Oct. 22, when the Ravens are scheduled to battle with the Detroit Lions. Having last donned purple in 2018, Suggs rewrote the Baltimore football record books. Entering this season, Suggs is the Ravens' all-time leader in sacks (132.5), tackles for a loss (193) and forced fumbles (33). Only one Raven (punter Sam Koch) has suited up for more games than Suggs, who came to Baltimore as the 10th overall pick of the 2003 draft out of Arizona State.

More Suggs individual accomplishments in purple and black include seven Pro Bowl nominations and the 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. Suggs proved capable of igniting Baltimore fans long before kickoff, as he became well-regarded for his pregame entrances and celebrations.

In addition to partaking in the Ravens' aforementioned Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Suggs earned a second title ring when he appeared in all three games of the Kansas City Chiefs' own championship trek in 2019. That journey, ironically enough, also ended with a win over the 49ers, as the 31-20 win in Miami served as the final game of his career.

In the meantime, Suggs' successors, the modern Ravens, will cap off a three-game preseason slate on Saturday night, heading south to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7 p.m. ET.
