Steelers LB Kwon Alexander Fined for Helmet Hit
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Kwon Alexander was fined significantly for his personal foul penalty in the first week of the 2023 preseason against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Alexander was fined $43,709 for his hit with the crown of the helmet against the Bucs.

The amount of the fine is determined by it being his second fine for that offense in his career. Alexander was also fined for the same foul while he was with the New York Jets in 2023.

Alexander’s defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said this week that he agreed with the foul being called against him.

“That’s absolutely a flag,” Austin said. “You drop your head and helmet like that and it’s a flag. That’s what we’ve been told.”

The Steelers were the most-fined team in the NFL in 2022, racking up $196,480 in supplementary discipline. Alexander’s $43,709 fine already has them headed toward that direction once again in 2023.

The Steelers signed Alexander after the start of training camp to a one-year contract worth a total of $1.3175 million.

Alexander will be in the lineup for the Steelers against the Buffalo Bills in the second week of the 2023 preseason at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday. He’ll just be a little bit lighter the pocketbook.
