Steelers GM will upgrade position of need 'if there's an opportunity'

The Steelers have completely rebuilt their inside linebacker room this offseason. However, some believe they should still add to it after it was named one of the NFL's weakest, and general manager Omar Khan is not opposed to the idea.

"If there's an opportunity to upgrade a position, we'll do it," Khan said following day one of Pittsburgh's training camp.

The Steelers signed linebackers Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, Tanner Muse and Nick Kwiatkoski in free agency, but they are still missing an athletic linebacker.

Pittsburgh is clearly open to the idea after hosting LB Kwon Alexander in May and being linked to other veteran linebackers such as Reuben Foster and Rashaan Evans.

The most intriguing option, however, is trading for Cardinals LB Isaiah Simmons. The former No. 8 overall pick from the 2020 NFL Draft got his fifth-year option declined and would bring tremendous upside to the Steelers' new-look unit.

Pittsburgh's current room is made up of a third-round pick (Muse), fourth-round pick (Kwiatkoski), fifth-round pick (Holcomb), sixth-round pick (Roberts) and seventh-round pick (Mark Robinson).

Although you should never judge where a player is drafted, it wouldn't hurt the Steelers to take a gamble on a player with a much higher ceiling. So, it's good to hear the "Khan Artist" could still strike again before the start of the 2023 season.
