Seven-time Pro Bowl C Alex Mack skips start of 49ers' OTAs, future still uncertain

The San Francisco 49ers opened up organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday and starting center Alex Mack was reportedly among those not in attendance. If Mack comes back to play in 2022, it would be his 14th NFL season.

The 36-year-old made his seventh Pro Bowl in 2021 and started every one of the team's 20 contests, including their three playoff games. Mack was limited to five games in 2014 due to a broken fibula and missed two games in 2020 with a concussion and then while on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but aside from that, has suited up every week.

Mack -- who has two years left on his contract and is due a $5 million base salary this season -- was selected 21st overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2009 and spent the first seven years of his career with the team. The University of California product signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in March 2016 and signed a three-year, $14.85 million deal with the Niners in March 2021.

A native of Los Angeles, Ca., Mack earned Second Team All-Pro honors in 2013, 2016 and 2017.
