Seahawks sign WR D.K. Metcalf to three-year, $72 million extension

After months of speculation, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf has a new contract.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks and Metcalf have agreed to a three-year, $72 million extension. The new deal pays Metcalf $58.2 million guaranteed and includes a $30 million signing bonus, the highest ever given to a wideout.

Metcalf was to enter the final year of his rookie contract before agreeing to an extension. His new deal locks him up through 2025. He'll be eligible for free agency in 2026 when he's 28 years old.

Throughout the offseason, Metcalf was the subject of trade rumors. After failing to report to mandatory minicamp in June, Metcalf reported to training camp this week but had yet to participate in any practices.

The 24-year-old played in all 17 regular-season games for the Seahawks last season, finishing with 75 receptions for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Seahawks drafted Metcalf in the second round out of Mississippi in 2019. In three seasons with Seattle, Metcalf has 216 catches for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl appearance in 2020.
