Seahawks Roster Moves Could Indicate Geno's Status vs. Eagles

Ahead of Monday night's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lumen Field, the Seattle Seahawks have elevated quarterback Sean Mannion and safety Ty Okada from the practice squad, the team announced.

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is questionable with a groin injury, and now appears to have his status more in doubt with Mannion being called up just hours before kickoff.

The Seahawks also elevated Mannion prior to Week 14's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Smith was then listed as an inactive before kickoff, which bumped up Mannion into the backup role behind Drew Lock.

Considering the timing of the moves on Monday, the same could be happening this time around. However, fans will have to wait for Smith's official game status when the Seahawks reveal their gameday inactives.

If Lock has to play, the Seahawks and coach Pete Carroll have shown that they're confident in what he can bring to the table. He showed impressive flashes in the loss to the 49ers, which marked his first start as a Seahawk.

"He’s had games in the past, but it’s been a while," Carroll said. "To come back, I don’t know how he would’ve been more prepared mentally to take this challenge on just judging by how he responded, how he handled it, how he communicated, how he handled the huddle and all of the calls and the situations, and the adjustments on the sidelines and halftime. He was a real pro about it. That’s a great sign, and he’s been preparing for this, and he came through in that regard. It’s a good moment for him and it is very valuable for him. I saw him a couple of times take the big breath, kind of the sigh, and okay, ‘Here we go.’ He was ready. I was proud of him.”
