San Francisco 49ers showing significant interest in adding their own DK Metcalf in 2024 NFL Draft
Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers found tremendous success in 2019 drafting a wide receiver out of South Carolina.

And they might be going back to Columbia to add to another potential star at wideout.

San Francisco, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network, hosted a top-30 visit with Gamecocks receiver Xavier Legette.

The 49ers took Deebo Samuel in the second round out of South Carolina, and he has since turned into one of the most versatile weapons in the NFL, earning All-Pro honors in 2021.

Legette has been receiving advice from Samuel throughout the process. While Legette was used as a weapon out of the backfield by South Carolina, he compares better to DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks at the next level with his combination of size and speed. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds at 6ft 1in and 221 pounds.

In his final season with the Gamecocks, Legette used his physical gifts and his ball-winning ability to devastating effect, breaking out for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns at an average of 17.7 yards per reception.

The 49ers already have the most explosive offense in football in no small part because of Samuel. Two days out from the draft, there's clearly a chance one of his close friends could make it even more fearsome.
