Ryans Praises Cameron Dantzler's 'Fun Moment' vs. Saints
USA TODAY Sports

Cameron Dantzler was a late addition to the Houston Texans, signing just five days before its final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. But inside the Caesars Superdome Stadium Sunday night, Dantzler's contributions left an impression on coach DeMeco Ryans.

Dantzel recorded three tackles and one pass deflection during the Texans' 17-13 victory over the Saints. And during New Orleans' final drive of the night, the 24-year-old cornerback picked off Jake Haener's pass attempt to tight end Lucas Krull.

"It was fun to see Cam go out and make a big play for us at the end of that game," Ryans said. "It was a fun moment for the entire team to end the game there."

The acquisition of Dantzler on Aug. 22 resulted in the Texans waiving wide receiver Alex Bachman.

Dantzler began his career as a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Injuries have derailed his first three seasons. But when healthy, Dantzler has proven to be a productive cornerback.

During the 2022 season, Dantzler appeared in 10 games for the Vikings. He finished the season tallying 50 total tackles, five pass deflections and a game-winning fumble recovery against a former teammate during Minnesota's Week 5 contest against the Chicago Bears.

"Cam had only been with us for a few days, so it’s encouraging to see his talent," Ryans said. "He’s played in the league, he’s an NFL corner, so he has the ability to play in this league."

Dantzler was behind the eight-ball to make the Texans' 53-man roster. But since Monday afternoon, the Texans have released Desmond King and Jacobi Francis from Dantzler's position group.
